On Aug. 15, Legal Council for Health Justice hosted its annual Summer Soiree fundraising and awards celebration.

The event, which took place at Sidetrack, 3349 N. Halsted St., raised funds from donations, a raffle and a silent auction, with guests enjoying both a reception and a buffet. Awards were given to longtime LGBTQ+ activists and supporters, including Dr. Renslow Sherer, who in the early days of the AIDS crisis, established a medical practice with the late Dr. Ron Sable; Susan Agrawal, who has advocated for health justice through Medicare and Medicaid; and Sidetrack’s owners Jose “Pepe” Pena and Art Johnston, who received the Ann Fisher Community Award. Drag artist Derry Queen served at host of the evening.

Prizes up for silent auction included a Wanderlust Getaway from United Airlines; Chicago Cubs and White Sox ticket packages; a Shakespeare package from The Chicago Shakespeare Theater; tickets from the Joffrey Ballet; Marc Chagall prints; and tickets to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Sponsors for the event included Gilead, Kirkland and Ellis, Winston and Strawn, and McDermot Will and Emory.
